Curriculum/Academic Information |
The Primary School is in the process of developing a ‘Creative Curriculum’ following the Rose report’s recommendations. Whilst the English National Curriculum is still used as a framework, it has been carefully adapted with units beings grouped under ‘themes’ so that children can make connections across the curriculum in a way which increases their understanding and learning potential. We have also replaced the UK focus in subjects such as History and Geography with local exemplars, which helps to place our students’ learning in a more meaningful context and within their realms of experience. The new Frameworks for Literacy and Numeracy have been implemented but, again, they have been modified in order to provide our students with a more bespoke programme of study.
The Primary school is committed to providing a curriculum which is broad, balanced and stimulating, as well as academically challenging. We maintain high expectations of all our students and employ a variety of teaching styles in order to help our students achieve their potential.
All students in the Primary School are encouraged to join in the extensive extra-curricular programme which runs both at lunch time and after school. Our students also have the chance to develop independence and responsibility further afield by joining in our off-campus overnight field trips to the Khao Yai National Park, the ancient city of Ayuthaya or the highest peak in Thailand – Doi Inthanon in Chiang Mai Province. Our youngest students in Year 3 have the opportunity to join in a fun-filled overnight camp on the school grounds to introduce them to life outside the comfort of their own homes. All our field trips are an integral part of our curricular themes and allow our children to extend their learning beyond the classroom.
