The School's aim is to promote academic excellence and provide the right framework for each student to fulfill his or her academic potential. Students are supported, encouraged and guided to obtain the best possible qualifications. The low teacher:student ratio enables teachers to pay close attention to individual academic development. Students are expected to master basic academic disciplines and develop sound study skills and an appropriate work ethic. The atmosphere within all classrooms is positive; students participate actively in their own learning and support the learning of others. Students are also encouraged to value creativity, originality and independence of thought, but above all a love of learning and a genuine spirit of enquiry.
StaffTeachers are well-qualified, enthusiastic and dedicated specialists. Subject teachers know their students well and search for ways to help them benefit fully from lessons. Teaching is challenging, demanding and stimulating for all students. Selection procedures for new staff are rigorous and all staff are regularly appraised.
Monitoring of StudentsThe progress of individual students is closely monitored on a regular basis. This is done by tracking effort, attainment and achievement across all subjects. Termly reports to parents comment on general progress, strengths and highlight any areas for development. Each student is placed in a tutor group with peers from the same House. Each student will also have a one-to-one interview with their tutor every term. Parents' Evenings are held termly for each year group and parents are welcome to contact Boarding staff tutors whenever they deem it necessary. The Head of Secondary School is pleased to meet with parents by appointment. The School believes that the best way to maximise a student's potential is for students, parents and the school to work closely together.
