General Introduction/Information
Geography is concerned with the study of places and the human and physical processes which shape and affect them. Geography encourages students to develop a wide range and variety of knowledge and skills. At the core of this is to develop student’s geographical skills, improve their understanding of places and acquire an insight into geographical themes. Fieldwork is an integral part of the curriculum for students across the school.
Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9)
In Key Stage 3 the foundations of geography are delivered. A wide range of topics are studied, these include settlement, natural hazards, sustainability, impossible places and tourism.
Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)
The IGCSE course for Geography is completed in years 10 and 11. The IGCSE Geography course is designed to encourage developing a sense of place and an understanding of relative location on a local, regional and global scale. They are prepared for the exam in year 11.
Key Stage 5 (Years 12 and 13)
The AS-Level and A level courses provide the basis of geography in years 12 and 13. The first year students complete modules in core geography like population and weather. A level students take advanced options like energy supply and coasts. |
