General Introduction/Information
General Introduction/InformationIn recent years, there has been considerable investment in ICT, and Bromsgrove International School now enjoys first rate facilities. There are two purpose built ICT suites used for teaching the subject to all students at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, as well as several PC’s available to students in the library. Students can also make use of the digital media editing suite, where they can learn to use industry standard video editing and graphics software. Students follow the UK ICT national Curriculum from Year 7 though to Year 11, before completing the IGCE in ICT at Key Stage 4.
Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9)
At Key Stage 3, students come to terms with the advanced features of popular software packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. They look at topics such as website design and control technology. Pupils are encouraged to compare features of programs and make a critical analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the various packages. Emphasis is put on integrating software packages and the use of appropriate software to complete particular tasks. ICT projects are used to reinforce these skills.
Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)
This compulsory course aims to develop each student’s skills base in a range of software and widen their knowledge and understanding of the role of ICT in the world today. Students will gain skills in a range of different software applications, while developing an understanding of how information technology systems work in the outside world, both in practical and work-related situations. Students will be encouraged to consider the impact of new technologies on methods of working, and examine social, economic, ethical and moral issues relating to the growth and use of technology today.
