During the time spent by students at Bromsgrove it is the aim of the Physical Education department to maintain and/or stimulate their interest and enjoyment in Physical Education and to promote health and fitness for current and future lifestyles.
Key Stage 1
Children are encouraged to explore running, jumping and throwing activities, take part in simple challenges and competitions, and experiment with different ways of travelling, throwing and jumping, increasing their awareness of what their bodies can do.
Key Stage 2
Children concentrate on developing good basic movement fundamentals (running, jumping and throwing techniques). They are set challenges for distance and time that involve using different styles and combinations of running, jumping and throwing. Later during the Key Stage children will focus on developing their technical understanding of the activities covered.
Key Stage 3
Students improve their skills and techniques acquired during earlier key stages. Activities become more technical with specific techniques for sports, in order to improve performances. They will also carry out investigations into aspects of technique and use the information to become more technically proficient, especially orally.
Key Stage 4
Students focus more on planning, preparing for and competing in a range of sporting competitions organised by themselves and others. They will work in groups and take on a range of roles and responsibilities to ensure competitions are organised well and performance is good.
To enable students to develop a their techniques and maximise their range of abilities the department promotes desirable personal qualities such as politeness, perseverance, initiative and independence. The establishment of pupil self esteem through the development of physical confidence is a major aim of the department.
Ultimately, the department hopes that students begin to see Physical Education as a major feature in a healthy lifestyle, that it supplies many varying employment opportunities and makes up cultural traditions in certain countries. |
