General Introduction/Information
Business Studies will give students a solid grounding in many of the skills required for business life in today’s rapidly changing world. It is a real life subject, which is happening around us all of the time and students are encouraged to keep up to date with current business issues through TV, newspapers and the internet.
Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)
Students will develop a knowledge and understanding of various aspects of business, including marketing; human resources; production; and ecommerce. In their lessons students will investigate the marketing strategy of products and learn how to make recommendations for how they could be improved.
Business Studies is potentially for everybody because virtually everybody will end up working in a business organisation of one kind or another.
Key Stage 5 (Years 12 and 13)
This is a two year course which enables students to gain a broad understanding of business and how businesses operate in the wider world. Students will develop skills of analysis and evaluation as well as applying their knowledge to a variety of case study situations.
Business Studies and related subjects make up the largest range of higher education courses available at universities and colleges. In addition, there are many university courses which give students the opportunity to specialise in one particular area of business studies, such as marketing or marketing and finance. Students are also able to combine business studies with another subject such as a language.
Business Studies students have a wide range of career opportunities available to them, from financial management to marketing and commerce and human resources management. Business Studies provides students with an understanding of the way that businesses and organisations operate and could therefore be applied to virtually any career.
