In April 2004, the School (formerly Windsor International School) became affiliated to Bromsgrove School, founded over 450 years ago and a leading independent day and boarding school for some 1,300 pupils. Bromsgrove School is situated in the English Midlands and provides a first-class education with excellent facilities and resources, as well as enjoying considerable distinction in Sport, Music and the Arts. Our aim, in partnership with Bromsgrove School England, is to offer, in Thailand, teaching, facilities and resources of equally high standard so as to provide education of the same excellent quality, ensuring in time that our pupils will be fully equipped to complete their education at the best universities around the world.
The Pre-Prep (or Early Years) campus has a dedicated modern and purpose-built suite of rooms, including dining hall, role paly room, ICT room, air conditioned gym/assembly/staged hall, library, two covered playgrounds, and a small swimming/splash pool to meet the needs of children up to the end of KS I (ages 2 to 7). At present there are approximately 100 students on the campus.
Windsor Park campus is about 15 minutes away by car, and opened in September 2005. It is set within the grounds of an attractive and prestigious golf-course conveniently close to Bangkok’s new International Airport. This campus caters for students from Years 3 – 12.
There are outstanding modern sports facilities including a half-olympic sized swimming pool, tennis courts, all-grass playing field, huge air conditioned gymnasium, golf practice area (putting green, bunker and pitching area) with a dedicated golf room. We have some of the best young golfers in Thailand on scholarships with us and have recently won the International Schools’ Association of Thailand Golf Cup.
In addition to its affiliation with Bromsgrove School UK, which conducts a thorough annual inspection of the Thailand operation, Bromsgrove International School Thailand is licensed by Thailand’s Ministry of Education and has regular membership of CIS (Council of International Schools), BISAC (Bangkok International Schools Athletic Conference) and BSA (Boarding School Association). It has already received accreditation from the University of Cambridge to be a registered centre for the CIE and the Thai Ministry of Education. The curriculum is based on British National Curriculum. It includes compulsory Thai studies, taught by Thai teachers.
In May 2008, Bromsgrove International School launched an affiliation with Daewon Foreign Language High School in Korea. The academic affiliation allows Bromsgrove to be highly selective with Korean students as only academically stong Korean students would be admitted into the programme. The move is in line with improving the academic standards at Bromsgrove in order to ensure high academic results. BIST now offers a Korean programme for selected Korean students staffed by teachers from Daewon.
Requirements:
Teachers at Bromsgrove International School are fully qualified; all are native English speakers (apart from MFL teachers) and the great majority are from the UK. Familiarity with, and experience of, the British education system is essential for all applicants.
The School operates in a very competitive market and it is essential that applicants understand and accept the high standards which this imposes. Besides a normal teaching commitment, teachers contribute to an extensive programme of after-school activities, the boarding programme (we have 100 boarders) and are also required to attend, and perhaps contribute to, Staff Development Days, Open Days, Marketing events etc. In addition, a very high standard of pastoral awareness and involvement is expected of all staff.
Great emphasis is placed on our rigorous All-English Policy: the children speak English throughout the School day, to each other as well as to the staff, in the playground and the lunch hall as well as in the classrooms. It is imperative that applicants for teaching posts at Bromsgrove are in sympathy with this approach and fully prepared to play an active part in implementing it.
Applicants for the posts should be sure to state their teaching strengths and experience as well as any relevant experience related to this fast-growing school, including all subject specialisms and any particular strengths in extra-curricular activities.
The teaching team is cohesive with high morale and we seek strong team players to join us in all posts. A flexible approach and a willingness to adapt are essential. To work overseas is a tremendous experience in its own right; to be part of a young and rapidly-developing school, to share in shaping it, creating its reputation and making it a success is, we believe, an unusual and very special chance. If you feel you could work with us and help us achieve our aims then we would like to hear from you.
Salary and Benefits
The School offers a competitive salary in keeping with other international schools in Thailand and the package of benefits includes housing allowance, end-of-contract bonus (if contract is renewed), health insurance, flights at beginning and end of contract and generous fee exemption and other discounts at BIST for teachers’ children.
