Profile of Headmaster - Mr Jon Wingfield

In August 2010, BIST ushers in a new era and welcomes Mr. Jon Wingfield as its incoming Headmaster who is from our sister school, Bromsgrove School UK. He has been with the school since 1997. Mr. Wingfield has broad managerial, academic and boarding school experience. He has an honours degree in Economics from Essex University.

Mr. Wingfield as the Senior Boarding Housemaster shares responsibility with the Deputy Head for the smooth running of the wider boarding community which has about 400 boarders. Total student complement at Bromsgrove School UK is nearly 1,500 students. In March 2010 OFSTED inspected the boarding community at Bromsgrove UK and it received the highest rating of ‘Outstanding’.

In addition to his experience in pastoral care, Jon also established and was Head of the Economics Department at Bromsgrove UK for 9 years. In that time the subject grew from a single set of half a dozen AS students, to one of the most popular and successful ‘A’ level subjects in the school. There are now around 140 students studying the subject and results are regularly in excess of 90% A/B grades at A2 level.

Mr Wingfield as Head of Staff Appraisal has management responsibilities for a significant complement of teaching staff.

On this appointment, Mr Wingfield commented;

"Being appointed to the post of Headmaster at BIST is a really exciting opportunity for me.  Working in partnership with the staff, students and their parents I am sure we will continue to see the School improve even further and be recognised by all for its successes.

Away from the office Mr Wingfield is a qualified strength and fitness coach and enjoys, developing training programmes and coaching a range of abilities from elite sports players to those who just want to stay in shape to meet their individual goals. He has run half-marathons for charity and in 2004 completed the New York Marathon raising funds for the ‘Dreams Come True’ children’s charity.

With such an excellent track record with a wealth of education experience, Mr.Wingfield will prove to be an excellent appointment for BIST. This appointment further strengthens the relationship between Bromsgrove International School Thailand and Bromsgrove School England. Mr. Wingfield is fully aware that the school is striving to achieve the highest possible academic standards for our students at BIST.

Mr Wingfield is married to Nicola with two children; Jake and Maya. The two children will be joining the Early Years School.
