Co-Curricular Arts

Throughout the school, students have the chance to express their talent and develop their skills through a range of co-curricular opportunities.

Our enrichment programme is available to all students and aims to enhance the performing and creative arts provision through a range of co-curricular activities. These include school productions, art and photography clubs, rock bands, orchestras, choirs and music production.

We celebrate the breadth, depth and quality of our co-curricular provision, which operates throughout lunchtimes, ECA time and after-school most days of the week. For our boarding students, there is also weekday evening practice supervision and regular Saturday morning activities. These activities offer access to art, drama and music for all, in addition to special platforms for the gifted and talented.

Bromsgrove Youth Music Theatre

YMT Logo

Bromsgrove Youth Music Theatre (YMT) is our schools’ dedicated musical theatre company, representing the very best of performing arts at Bromsgrove.

The annual musical production is the YMT’s main event in the school calendar, featuring a cast of 40+ students and a live show orchestra, in addition to a number of students supporting the show backstage and on sound or lighting.

Recent shows have included The Wizard of Oz, We Will Rock You and The Addams Family, which were all thoroughly enjoyed by the whole school community.

Musical Clubs and Ensembles

Our current ensembles and clubs include:

  • Early Years Music ECA
  • Primary and Secondary Choirs
  • Vocal Ensemble (by invitation/audition)
  • Music Technology ECA
  • Percussion Ensemble
  • Rock School
  • Jazz Band
  • KS2-3 String Orchestra
  • KS2-3 Brass Band
  • Senior Orchestra (by invitation/audition)

Some of these ensembles are by invitation or audition, requiring a minimum standard and ongoing commitment to regular rehearsals and performances. Alongside the more formal opportunities, we also have many rock, pop and jazz groups that the students form themselves. They have full access to our facilities, rehearsing at lunchtimes or after school. Our rock bands have featured in the top three at the TISAC Battle of the Bands for the last four years, claiming the Upper Secondary Champions title in 2018.

Performance Opportunities

Across the school, we provide a huge range of performance opportunities, allowing our students to showcase their learning from inside and out of the classroom. Our students regularly take to the stage for nativities, productions, awards ceremonies, assemblies and concerts, growing in skill and confidence each time they perform. Please see our YouTube channel for highlights from some of our recent events.

Visual Arts Exhibitions

We aim to provide a range of opportunities for our young artists to showcase their work throughout the school. Student artwork is displayed in many areas across both campuses, while the annual Art Exhibition takes place in the Hadley Hub in Term 3 each year. This exhibition always features a range of work from Years 7 to 13 to celebrate the effort, creativity and imagination of our students in Art and Digital Media.

FOBISIA and TISAC

As active members of both the FOBISIA and TISAC organisations, we are proud to take our students to performing arts events across Bangkok and Asia. We have also hosted a number of these events in our very own Oriental Siam Performing Arts Centre. In recent years, these have included the FOBISIA Drama Festival, the TISAC Orchestra and Choral Days, and the hotly contested TISAC Battle of the Bands.
