International Award

The school is proud to be a license holder of the Basic Independent Award Centre (IAC) and as such can deliver The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. BIST is dedicated to the award and recognises the importance of the award in supporting students on their journey to a better future.

For further details about this exciting award please visit the website. www.intaward.org

At Bromsgrove, we offer the International Award beginning in Year 9. If students choose to take part, they are expected to complete the training and practice expedition for the International Award at Bronze level. If they are successful in gaining the Bronze level, then they will be eligible to complete the Silver level.

What is the International Award?

The International Award is for anyone aged 14-24 who is looking to a life of adventure and independence. The International Award is fully inclusive (so you don’t need to be sporty or academic) and the best bit is that it is led by you!

You get to choose from section activities to the Adventurous Journey you are the master of your own destiny. Everyone can participate but it’s up to you how much you get out of it! We encourage our students to choose projects that really interest and excite them, learn new skills and experience a little more of life.

Award Levels

You can complete the International Award at 3 different levels; Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. (More details can be found in the relevant guide under useful links).

Each award has 4 different components (5 for Gold Award) – skills, physical recreation, service, adventurous journey (and residential project).

You will find that your fitness improves, you will contribute to your community in a meaningful way and you will develop not only your selected skill but also those needed to successfully complete your adventurous journey.
