Some students have taken a gap year or have not yet decided on their destination

Destinations of the Bromsgrove Graduating Class of 2016

A message from the Head of Boarding

With the end of term looming a reflective look back at the first half of our academic year 2014/2015 in boarding is heart warming to see…

Peng won Mercedes Benz Junior Golf on December 13-14 and he was an amateur champion of “Bangkok open championship” on December 17-19 which was a pro tournament with many of asian tour pro players. He got 12th.

Congratulations to ENG, Yr 9 on her tremendous golfing achievement last week whilst playing in the SICC Junior Golf Tournament in Singapore. With scores of 75,78,73 finishing on (+10) it isn’t going to be very long before she moves up from 3rd place to the winners podium! Good luck to all of our golfers for the tournaments that they will be playing in Thailand and around the world in 2015.

On Monday 8th December, Bromsgrove Football Academy hosted its 2nd annual Primary Football Tournament.

In total, eight teams played in the Under 9 and Under 11 event.
Although it was a friendly tournament, the players were determined and the competition fierce.
After a win and two narrow defeats, Bromsgrove under 9s won the 3rd place play off final 3 :0 against St Andrew’s. The highlight of the match was a fantastic, weaving, run and deft chip to open the scoring, by Alex Swan.
All the players did exceptionally well: Alot, Harry and Link were playing in their first matches for the school.

The Under 11 team again came so close to winning the tournament, this time beaten narrowly in the final by Shrewsbury school.
All the players should be proud of their achievements and have improved massively this term. I’m sure that, with the same determination and hard work on the training pitch, the silver medals will soon turn gold!
On behalf of the Football Academy, I would like to thank the Primary Parents Group for all the support that the football teams have received this year. Your assistance has been invaluable.

Six Bromsgrove students have just returned from the Tournament of Champions at Yale University, the prestigious global final of the World Scholar’s Cup. Among other achievements, Year 10 student, Thomas Savage, was crowned best debater in the world.

Six Bromsgrove students have just returned from the Tournament of Champions, the prestigious global final of the World Scholar’s Cup. Competing against the 300 finalists in the Junior Division (11-15) from around the world, our two teams (Jeana Lee, Thomas Savage and Surabhi Vanalia; Daisy Savage, Devi Vanalia and Joon Ho Byun) enjoyed a life-changing experience.

After a whistle-stop tour of Manhattan, including visits to the Empire State Building and the 9/11 memorial, shopping in Macy’s and catching a sunset glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from Battery Park, the teams made their way up to New Haven, Connecticut, and Yale University, where the competition took place.

Whether in the debating or collaborative writing rounds, or amid the rigour of the Scholar’s Challenge exam or the Scholar’s Bowl team quiz, our students distinguished themselves with aplomb. One team – Jeana, Thomas and Surabhi – were placed 6th for debating, and were placed on the Honour Roll overall; and Surabhi featured individually on the Honour Roll in the Science component of the Scholar’s Challenge.

Most impressive of all, Thomas Savage brought home a glittering array of prizes, placing 6th overall for the Scholar’s Challenge (and on the Honour Roll for the Arts, Literature and Science), 1st in the world for debating and an amazing 2nd in the world across the entire competition. In a contest which sees the very best teenage minds on the planet compete against each other, it was fantastic to see a Bromsgrove student come out on top.

Whilst in the USA, our teams also enjoyed tours of Ivy League colleges Yale, Harvard and, recently rated Number 1 in the world, MIT (Machachusetts Institute of Technology). This was a rare opportunity for our world-beating scholars to have a window into some of the institutions in which they may even study themselves in a few years time.

Congratulations to all six students, and a big thank you to all the staff who have helped them along the way, and especially to Mrs Beanland and Mr Savage for coaching them to the top. This year, we have 24 students enrolled on our World Scholar’s Cup programme, so fingers crossed there may be Bromsgrove teams at the Tournament of Champions at Yale next year too.

On Thursday 27th November 2014, Ms Duenpen Pawakranond, school director of Bromsgrove International School Thailand, together with teachers, parents and students representatives, presented a bouquet of flowers to bless His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej for his recovery at Siriraj Hospital. Through this, the schools wishes to show its appreciation of the divine grace of His Majesty for his subjects and foreigners and to foster in our children a pride in their nation, religion and monarchy.

We had a fantastic 3 days of sporting competition at the Under 15 FOBISIA games held at the Bangkok’s landmark Rajamangala national stadium. The event saw schools from all over South East Asia competing against each other over 3 days in Athletics, Swimming, Football and Basketball. This was the first time that Bromsgrove International School Thailand (BIST) had entered this prestigious event and it proved to be a very successful and enjoyable occasion from start to finish.

Of all the schools competing, we won the most medals in the team games, finishing in the top 3 for every event: a tremendous achievement. In the Athletics, we achieved a total of 10 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 8 bronze medals. Again this was one of the highest medal tallies of any school there and enabled us to claim the silver medal overall for Athletics. In the Swimming, our boys claimed the team bronze medal, another fantastic achievement. In total, over the 3 days of sporting competition, BIST won medals in 75% of all events. A great achievement and a real testament to the talent and dedication of our students.

A huge congratulations to the whole BIST Under 15 FOBISIA SQUAD!

During our recent coffee mornings at both the Early Year campus and the Windsor Park campus, parents were shown a presentation called ‘What is outstanding learning?’

Dr Moore and Mr Savage outlined to parents what learning at Bromsgrove looks like and discussed how teachers are embedding the BIST Learner Profile attributes into our lessons across both campuses. The link for the presentations is below.
