Good luck to the rest of our golfers who are also playing in many events over the summer months.

Dear Parents,

It is with great enthusiasm that I write to inform you of some exciting developments in sport at BIST. This year, we successfully joined the FOBISIA, the premier organisation of British International Schools across South and South East Asia.

As a result of this, we now have the opportunity to take part in competitive sport against schools throughout the region. We will continue to take part in our local BISAC sporting league as before, but this will now be enhanced by these regional competitions.

The “FOBISIA Games” take place at various times over the course of the academic year. They are normally 3 day events consisting of Basketball (or T-Ball for Primary students), Swimming, Athletics and Football. The events for next year take place at the following times and venues:

  • The first event is the U15 Games from 13 to 15 November 2014, and will be hosted by Traill International School, Bangkok.
  • In March 2015, the U13 Games will take place at Garden International School Rayong.
  • Finally, the Regent’s School Bangkok will host the Primary Games in May 2015.

This is a great opportunity for our students to take part in even more sport for BIST, and we hope to participate in each competition. Further details will follow in due course, but, in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me should you require further information

Yours faithfully

Darren Beanland
Director of Sport

Veleka Georgieva (Year 12), was recently invited to visit Washington DC, as part of Houston University’s Gulen Institute Youth Platform. There were over 550 contestants from over 40 countries, each of whom submitted an essay on the following topic: “”What role should state and non-profit agencies play in the education of disadvantaged youth who are not realizing their potential?”

The writers of the best 30 essays qualified for a place at the Washington event, and Veleka’s essay on “The Importance of the Disadvantaged Youth in the Future Development of Our Global Community” impressed the judges so much that she was selected to represent Thailand. Not only was this an amazing feat for Veleka, but it also shows Bromsgrove, yet again, competing on a global level.

At the event, the students had to give a speech about their essay in one of the study halls of Georgetown University, and Veleka’s prize was awarded by Arjaree Sriratanaban, from the Thai Embassy in Washington.. All visitors were also given a tour of the city, including the Library of Congress, the White House, and the Washington Memorial, not to mention taking in the beautiful sight of the annual Cherry Blossom Festival.

Congratulations to Veleka for this phenomenal achievement, and for representing both Bromsgrove and Thailand with such flair and panache.

On Monday 28 April, our team of golfers joined 12 other International schools for the annual invitational tournament hosted by The Royal Bangkok Sports Club. We have been regular attendees since the inauguration of this event which had just 4 schools compete 5 years ago.

The teams made up of 6 players from 3 age categories competed. Our players returned some excellent scores on the day but our star player was Dream who only recently joined the school. He won the 12yr and under age category with a wonderful score of 4 over par 69!

Mark Yr 12 won 2 of the nearest the pin on the Par 3 holes Other team members were Liz yr 12, Peng Yr 9, Mek Yr 7 and Timer yr 6.

Thanks also to Coach Tak for taking the team on the day.

Bromsgrove Early Years are happy to announce the implementation of the 2Simple system for pupil monitoring and assessment and school/parent communication. The system has proven very useful in making observation and assessment much easier, faster and more frequent. Another benefit of the system is that it allows pupil observations and assessments to be quickly and easily shared with parents via email.

As a Bromsgrove Early Years parent you should have received an email asking you to confirm your acceptance of communications in this way. Please simple click the link and press the confirm button to accept. If you have not received an email and you would like to sign up for communications please email hdenton@bromsgrove.ac.th

Come along to the Coffee Morning at Early Years on Wednesday 29th to find out more!

Having qualified for the Global Round last year on a ‘wild card’ as ‘Rookie’ teams, BIST excelled this year beyond our wildest expectations. This is all the more impressive given that we were competing against 45 teams from 15 schools, including the ‘heavyweights’ of Shrewsbury, Patana, ISB, NIST and St Andrews: that’s 135 of the very most able Y7-10 students across the Bangkok international school community.

We entered 3 teams:
1.Shawn, Surabhi and Thomas
2.Daisy, Devi and Joonho
3.Maisie, Nathan and Shearee

The competition was divided into 4 events:
1.Collaborative Writing (a persuasive writing task)
2.Scholar’s Challenge (a 120-question, often university-level, multiple-choice exam across 6 specialist subjects)
3.Scholar’s Bowl (a 3-hour team quiz in divergent thinking and specialist knowledge and deduction)
4.Debating (3-rounds, each one hour long)

Our results were as follows…
