Year 3 Toucans Learning Extreme Earth

March 25, 2019

Year 3 Toucans have been busy continuing to learn all about our Extreme Earth. We didn’t know how long ago volcanoes started to erupt until this week, when we placed famous eruptions on a timeline. Children have mastered the skill of creating and organising dates.

Toucans have also written a recount based on the famous story ‘Escape from Pompeii’. They wrote it from the main character, Tranio’s, point of view.

Children have also created a dramatised version of the story, using it to create scenes to share vital parts of the story and how they escaped from the erupting volcano. They also portrayed Tranio and Livia’s emotions when they realised everyone from Pompeii had been killed.

Toucan’s arty flair has also been utilised when creating several pieces of art, stemming from tsunami’s with paint, volcanoes with oil pastels and the The Great Wave off Kanagawa, with fine colour pen.

If you need any advice about how to portray a natural disaster through art – ask Year 3!
